Bratya Basu’s statement recorded amid JU clash, FIR filed

The Kolkata Police recorded the statement of West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu three days ago. This statement was taken in connection with the incident that took place at Jadavpur University on March 1. When Education Minister Bratya Basu arrived at an event at Jadavpur University, he faced protests from students.

It is alleged that the students surrounded his vehicle, raised slogans, and demonstrated, demanding student union elections. During this time, bricks were allegedly thrown at his car, injuring Bratya Basu. Two students, Indranuj Roy and Abhinav Basu, were also injured in the incident and were admitted to the hospital.

Following the incident, political turmoil erupted in West Bengal, and the matter even reached the High Court. Injured student Indranuj had emailed the police to file a complaint about the incident, but students alleged that the police did not take any action. When the case reached the High Court, Justice Tirthankar Ghosh directed the police to register an FIR based on Indranuj’s complaint.

In this case, Indranuj demanded that a case be filed against Education Minister Bratya Basu, his driver, Jadavpur University professor Omprakash Mishra, and some activists associated with the Trinamool Congress. After the incident, the student organization SFI, affiliated with the CPI(M), circulated an image on social media showing a student trapped under Bratya Basu’s car. Based on this image, former state secretary of SFI, Srijan Bhattacharya, was summoned by the police for questioning.

Additionally, the police searched the house of Professor Omprakash Mishra, associated with the Trinamool-backed teachers' organization WEBKUPA, as he was also present at the scene on the day of the incident. The police have recorded statements from several individuals regarding the Jadavpur University incident. A section of students claims that Indranuj and Abhinav were injured due to being hit by Bratya Basu’s car. The police are investigating the case from every angle. It has now been revealed that Bratya Basu’s statement was recorded as early as March 3.
